A Literary Journey to Yorkshire: Notes From Our Brontë Tour
Twenty-eight students, three Brontë sisters, and a fortnight on the moors. Field notes from one of our most requested educational itineraries.
Howarth in March is a wet kind of beautiful. The cobblestones are slick, the sky is the colour of pewter, and on the parsonage hill you can almost — almost — talk yourself into believing in Cathy and Heathcliff.
What worked
We split a fortnight between Howarth, Whitby and York. Mornings on foot, afternoons in archives, evenings in pubs that were already old when George Eliot was new. It's the most students-engaged-without-phones we've seen on any tour.
